Project Description
Overview
HallKeen is a Boston-based real estate investment and management firm overseeing more than 6,800 units across 85+ communities nationwide. Their portfolio spans affordable and workforce housing, requiring clear communication and accessible digital tools for residents, employees, and leadership.
The Challenge
When HallKeen first engaged Enginate, the organization was navigating internal change and needed a website that could better support its growing portfolio. The existing site lacked cohesion, relied on manual processes, and made it difficult for different audiences — residents, employees, and partners — to find what they needed efficiently.
Our Approach & Solution
Our Approach
Phase 1: Redesign & Infrastructure Build
We began with a full site redesign and rebuild, restructuring navigation, improving content clarity, and modernizing the CMS. Special care was taken to preserve SEO performance while eliminating redundancies and outdated structures.
Key additions included dynamic property spotlight pages, a custom apartment search experience, and a searchable property manager directory for current residents.
Phase 2: Employee Portal & Automation
To support HallKeen’s distributed workforce, we launched a secure Employee Portal providing centralized access to internal communications, training resources, and announcements. This was later extended through native iOS and Android apps for easier mobile access.
We also replaced a PDF-based employment application with a custom, multi-step online form paired with automated notifications — improving applicant flow and internal coordination.
Phase 3: Brand Refresh & Modernization (2025)
With new leadership in place, HallKeen re-engaged Enginate for a targeted visual and messaging refresh. This phase focused on high-impact storytelling pages — including the Homepage, Leadership, and Contact sections — aligning the site with the organization’s renewed brand direction: Invested in Communities. Driven by Purpose.
Updates included refined layouts, improved accessibility, refreshed typography, and clearer calls to action for developers, partners, and investors.
Phase 4: Planning Forward
With the refreshed experience live, Enginate continues to collaborate with HallKeen on strategic planning toward a future rebuild that would unify property systems and internal tools under a single, cohesive platform.
Key Outcomes
HallKeen now operates on a flexible digital foundation that supports residents, employees, and leadership more effectively. The site has evolved alongside organizational changes, enabling clearer communication, improved workflows, and a stronger expression of HallKeen’s mission across its national portfolio.
